Cesar Montano makes fun of politics

Yesterday, I watched Unang Hirit interview Cesar Montano to ask him about his decision to run for Senator under the Administration party – Team Unity.

If the interview was not at all related to politics you would even be slightly interested and amused and might feel like you were listening to a showbiz segment. However, it was related to politics and there was nothing amusing in it.

Which is not what I can say about Cesar’s demeanor. He was smiling almost laughing… like some kid who got a gift from Santa as he confirmed that – yes he was indeed running under Team Unity. And yes, he called Sunshine (his wife) to tell her about his decision.

He was sheepish as he explained how “dyahe” he was to his fellow actors, producers and directors as he had already “sort of” committed to doing tv shows with them (without actually signing a contract). He mentioned how he and Richard Gutierrez were already in discussion about how excited they were to be starring in a show together.

So now you would be led to think… did Cesar even think hard before deciding to accept Malacanang’s offer? He admitted to everything happening so fast that he was still in a whirlwind over it (on national TV!!).

I mean even Manny Pacquiao appeared to have thought hard before filing his candidacy. But this?!?!?!

I have no doubt that Cesar is a world-class actor – he has awards to show for it. But his craft failed him in this one. He could not even slightly veil the fact that his (together with the whole nation) endorsement was a surprise.

With everything happening in politics today, it is not unexpected to see Cesar run for Senator. Nevertheless, it is still a surprise that he actually did.

    - maybe.. maybe not.. which still confirms he did not even think much about it. And that is really sad because for the life of me I don’t know what he will do in case he wins (which is not impossible)..
