Models and mortals

woman-and-makeup.jpg My hubby and I spent the weekend watching Season 1 of Sex and the City titled: Models and mortals.

The episode portrayed men of the “modelizer” type – those who are obsessed with models. The story started with Miranda hitting it off with a modelizer who’s friends gave him an ultimatum to stop dating models or stop joining them for dinner. Thus the guy asked Miranda out. When she found out, she felt insulted and pissed for being thought of as someone “not a model”. Complex isnt it? How can beautiful, intelligent and successful women like Miranda be reduced to insecure imbeciles when faced with being compared to a model?

In society today, modelizers exist in the millions. I actually live with a “frustrated modelizer”. LOL

I asked sweetie how come models are often (not always) defined or portrayed as mentally challenged? He just replied with a matter-of-fact tone that – it was one of the reasons why they are models. And if they weren’t mentally challenged – they probably wouldn’t be models.

I agree to a certain degree. But does it have to be that way? Do gorgeous, intelligent women not think about modelling as a career? Does beauty in this case act as a stain rather than a glow?

To all mortals out there… Would you date a model? Are you dating a model? Would you want to live the life of a model? or are you one already? ;)

    Ah yes, Sex and City… too bad the series ended. I’ve watch it during the late 90s, then my interest waned during the early part of the millennium. Some compared it to Desperate Housewive, and Entourage… I say no comparison.

    As the years roll by you can see the transformation not only of the characters but of the times. Dating during the 90s is akin to war of the sexes with all the unwritten rules and all…

    As for the modelizer? Does escorts count? If so Philippines4men is the epitome.

    @Basang Panaginip
    I agree. No TV series has come up to par with Sex and the City. Not Desperate Housewives, or as you say Entourage. Grey’s Anatomy has the same electricity but the situations are entirely different and the personalities all the more.

    I guess there is something alluring about 4 gorgeous, successful women in their prime in a TV series that has Sex in its Title. ;)

    I remember this particular episode. SATC has mirrored the realities of dating and women’s issues in one way or another.
    Sigh… I was so moved by its finale. I cried! =o

    MJ – I guess that is why it is so popular.
