Friday the 13th

Seems like today is a special day.

I can only think of the following reasons why today would be special:

  • Friday the 13th is considered by many a “bad luck” day. Information in Wikipedia further details that – “Some people are so paralyzed by fear that they are simply unable to get out of bed when Friday the 13th rolls around. The Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute estimates that more than 17 million people are affected by a fear of this day.” I stopped believing in bad luck the minute I developed a brain.
  • I received the most number of text messages for this year today. I woke up to find 6 unread messages in my Inbox and they weren’t from globe or work. I received more as the day wore on. I even got text from people whose numbers did not register on my mobile. I thanked them anyway. I got messages from ex-boyfriends, international friends, and friends that I haven’t heard from in years!
  • Today I celebrate my 32 years of existence. If celebrate is the most apt term to use to define just lying around the house and binging on junk food all day.

Hmm… after that, it seems that today isn’t all that special really. For someone who makes a lot of noise on special occasions (I love occasions), I remained silent today. I chose to sit here in the dark and stare into space. Musing is not alien to me. I must have learned to do that while in my mother’s womb. I mastered it so much, I find myself doing it every chance I get. Like today. There’s a lot to think on such a day as today. I get to recall the past 32 years. What is so good about the past that I even want to dwell on it? Hey… my life hasn’t been a total mess.

So what’s to celebrate?

  • I was born 32 years ago today.
  • I am still living and breathing 32 years after.
  • I learned to read and write and think by being schooled for 21 years.
  • I passed every milestone of those 21 years with flying colors.
  • I found a job that I loved.
  • I found the man that I love.
  • I lived through c-section twice.
  • I became rich. I became poor. And the cycle goes on.

And there I end my musing. And today is really just another day.

Happy Birthday to me. Happy Birthday to me. Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday to me.
