The fashion phone: Motorola RAZR2

True to being a Sex and the City fan, I lust after a clamshell phone. Most of the chick flicks that I can remember have IT girls carrying these flips.

However, my husband has always discouraged me from buying one stating that it was prone to breaking at the joint. I was no expert on phones like he is so I was hesitant to blow my money on something that would give up on me in a few months. So I’ve carried a candybar all my life.

At the Motorola dinner the other night, my hopes were raised again. Their new Motorola RAZR called MOTORAZR2 V8 is coming out soon and we were able to get first dibs in it. Malyn of Ogilvy introduced us to this elegant new flip and just the looks of it was enough to make me keel over.

I am the type who uses my mobile mostly for calls and text. I consider my phone an accessory so the smaller and smoother it is the better. So you can see where the appeal of this to me is coming from. This is a perfect accessory to my naturally kikay self.

The new RAZR has the following features to watch out for:

  • It is slimmer than all previous Motorola phones (could a phone really be any slimmer than what they are now?)
  • It is sleeker with a cool finish that is definitely scratch-proof
  • Larger secondary screen
  • You can read SMS without flipping open your phone
  • You can respond to SMS without flipping open your phone (using pre-defined message templates)
  • You can use the secondary screen as a mirror to touch up your hair or makeup in case of emergency

I took the phone in my hands to test drive it. The response time was amazing. I guess being used to a phone where you literally have to count 1-2-3 before you can open 1 SMS, anything faster would be a blessing. I liked the UI for I love all pretty things and this one is indeed very preeety for me.

One thing I did not like though which is actually enough to make me reconsider buying it is the phone’s handiness for people with very short fingers like I do. Although the phone is very slim, its width is still similar to other phones in the market. The difference is that they keys are farther apart than others so it is really quite a challenge to try and text using fingers in one hand. But I tried texting with the RAZR2 only once. Maybe when I get the hang of it, I will not find it that challenging.

Malyn’s phone was the Motorola KRZR which had a smaller width than the RAZR2. I held that in my hand and I could hear music… it was a perfect fit.

So now I am a convert. I continue to lust after a clamshell phone. Its just now – I lust after a Moto flip.

sidenote: Motorola V8 SRP is P19,990
