I have been longing to change my wordpress theme for a while now but could not find an inspiring theme to modify. For the longest time I could not decide what I really wanted for a theme… light? dark? two-column? three-column? I regularly searched Weblog Tools Collection and Wordpress Theme Viewer and other blog sites that offer wordpress themes but nothing caught my fancy.

Then I chanced upon the dark theme of Vikiworks Studio and I knew I wanted to change from my bright, white theme to a darker one. So I downloaded his Resurrection theme and started to customize it for my blog. But, it was too challenging to customize Resurrection and I really did not want to just use the default images and style the theme had. I also was a bit more impatient now to get a new theme up and loaded.

I looked through my theme archives (downloaded themes from months before) and found myself a simple design that I could easily customize. So here it is - one of Tina Silva’s pink layouts that I modified based on inspiration from Vikiworks.

I finished my theme in 2 days. But after uploading it to my website, I encountered errors editing the header file. I kept getting the error “The requested theme does not exist” after clicking on the update file button. It was so frustrating that I had to edit the text files locally and then upload them again and again. The error persisted and I thought I would have to admit defeat and start on another theme when I discovered glitch’s post on a similar issue.

The original theme from Tina Silva was named Freedom & Pink. Apparently this caused problems with the html and screwed up the rest of the code on my website. So I edited the style.css and changed all the ampersands to the actual word “and” and re-uploaded the theme.
