Writing love letters

With the world turning literally virtual and technical, simple (but ancient) practices can easily be forgotten. Take love letters. I confess, I used to live in a world where correspondence came in the form of perfumed paper and took anywhere from 3 to 5 days in transit before the message is actually received. That is if your mailman happens to be diligent in his delivery of the day’s mail.

These days, I am lucky to receive a card in the mail and mostly it would be from my friends from so far away who, like me lived during those middle ages when snail mail was the in thing.

I find that I miss the act of smelling the scented envelope, opening the crisp flap and pulling out pages worth of loving words expressed by someone infatuated by you. I think I still have that box of letters hidden at the back of my closet. It used to be several large boxes but I think I let go of the oldest ones when I learned to detach myself from the past and live in the present.

I used to be an avid writer myself. I’m sure that at least several of my scented stationery has traveled the country (and the world). I can still write a mean love letter if I am so inspired although now I prefer to use my fingers for typing instead of writing and avoid the painful muscle strain. But, those moments are few and cherished. Its also been a while since I have received a true blue love letter. The last time was many many years ago and I cannot even recall the situation or the feeling.

Not to say though that not every word that comes out of my hubby’s mouth is a disguised love letter. I can only wish. But who needs a scented love letter when you have got the real thing?

yikes, i feel so backward. i do prefer writing on paper to typing. the computer screen hurts my eyes. and i’m happy to say that the last time i wrote a love letter was just last august. i dunno, i’ve always felt something profoundly beautiful feeling my calloused hand rub against paper. even when there’s really nothing to write.

shine – I dont think its backward, just ancient – hehe. I think there are still many that do write on paper otherwise many stationery stores would be closing. I envy you that it was only last month that you put words on paper. Sometimes reality makes it hard for us not to take things for granted. :)
