The Duke at AXN
I was channel surfing yesterday evening looking for a good show on TV when Marc Nelson’s gorgeous smiling face filled the screen. My hands immediately froze and I continued to watch as the light and seductive banter unfolded among the hosts of what I learned to be AXN’s newest show, the Duke.
The show is advertised as being the big boys club, a show for men and about men. I must admit, that the topics and opinions have a daring edge to it that makes you stay glued to the show. Talk is fast, quick, witty and if you can’t follow, you won’t get it and if you don’t get it then too bad.
Not all segments of the show though is as exciting as I have pictured it. There are parts where they venture into hardcore metrosexual topics like custom made shoes, fine suits, and fine cars (oooh this I love) that do not really interest me. If you are a man who is into jazzing up your image and your lifestyle, you might get a few tips from men who make a living out of it.
Watch the next episode entitled Metrosexual, next Monday, Feb 16, 2009 at 8:00PM Manila.

The Duke is easily the most sexist and discriminatory show on television. For you to find this show amusing is simple testament to your immaturity. I pity you, you obviously don’t know any better. Hello!? Do you not understand this show is focused on putting women down?
I don’t think you read or understand what I wrote. I said the show was exciting not amusing simply because it dared to openly discuss such topics such as men, women, relationships, sex, fashion, money and lifestyle. The show is focused on MEN not women. Since women are a big chunk of a man’s life then there should be something about women in the show. I don’t understand how talking about custom made shoes for men can be construed as putting down women. I talked of understanding men by watching the show and as I said, if you can’t follow, you won’t get it and if you won’t get it, I doubt you ever will.
By the way, you don’t know me enough to judge my maturity or otherwise. I am simply open minded which helps me understand what makes people tick – including you. And it is because I do know better that I take the show at face value – it is for entertainment purposes and I got entertained. Tastes vary so I won’t blame you if you find the show offensive. I personally find Marimar (and most other telenovelas) offensive and insulting but the rest of the archipelago doesn’t. You probably don’t. Cheers!
Haha, i thing this “discerning” person is a feminist.. she must’ve experience some horrible experiences from men in the past. Lolz, well anyway… I agree with you on The Duke! It’s about time they have their own show together.. Marc and Rov are just meant for it.. they’re perfect as hosts as their not boring and they’re very articulate and smart!
Bel – I tend to agree with you. Feminist or insecure? I think anyone who thinks Marc and Duke are out to put down women is not being realistic. In fact, the show is all but showing how powerful women can be. I am not at all for double standards. I wont cry foul about a show that allows me to ogle at Marc at my pleasure. Eh?

Haha, I don’t mind the show being sexist and all. But come to think of it, if you switch to the Lifestyle Network, they air women’s shows 24/7. And men only get a measly 1 hour…it’s okay, I have a very open mind anyway. But maybe not open enough to let @-holes like them drag the rest of the country downward while they uphold their “good living”. They only promote the “lifestyle” (I hate that word) of the rich, and don’t give a damn about anything else. They ought to know better.
p.s. And no, they have no goddamn idea about cars, unless given a lofty price tag. They ought to know better about that as well. Shame also about the on-and-off [foreign] accent.
People, for the love of God, stop buying expensive things just because they’re expensive!!!
Bob M – Now that is a comment I appreciate since it centers on something concrete about the show. I do agree that they tend to feature a lifestyle that is enjoyed by the elite few who happens to have a ton of money. And while not all expensive things are great, the price tag makes all the difference.
And I think that people buy expensive things not because they’re expensive but because they just can.
I cannot comment about their accent as I am too enamored by Marc’s gorgeous-ness to notice how the accents get turned on and off. Cheers!
