Toss it here!
I, like any other woman I guess, have attended several weddings when I was single. And I can recall that for me, it almost always turns into an extremely uncomfortable situation when the couple decides to call out the names of each single lady that is present at the wedding reception. My reaction has always been to crouch down hoping that if they don’t see me then they will not remember to call me. But then they have a list, and every single female name of a friend or relative is on it. So much for hiding. As if!

So all of us gather in a group behind the bride cajoled to pretend that we are actually hungry to catch the bridal bouquet. I mean what gives? I can never understand why its so important to be the one to catch the bouquet. At first the flower’s thorns threw me off – yes there are some who don’t care enough to take the thorns out. Another time, I was thrown off literally by desperately seeking Susan who appeared to have made it her ultimate goal to catch the wedding bouquet that night.
It was actually relief attending weddings after I got married. The pressure to participate had disappeared and I could freely laugh and tease my friends, relatives and sisters who looked like me some years ago… uncomfortable and hesitant and in the end embarrassed. After all who wanted to put on the face of a football player ready to push and shove and lunge at a flying bouquet at the risk of ruining an expensive cocktail dress and a perfect pair of stilettos? That picture is the stuff of America’s Funniest Videos (AFV)!
I found it silly then and I still find it ridiculous now when couples include this particular activity in their reception program. Why don’t they just eliminate it altogether? Tradition my a*s! And because they know how no one wants to participate, couples these days turn to sneaky tactics just to get some fun out of their guests. So far, reverse psychology has been effective at creating more AFV moments. I wonder who invented this idea in the first place? Since I am too lazy to do the research, anyone care to fill me in on its history? Cheers!

Hi – I see you’re having trouble with your claim on Technorati. The problem is that http://apples-pie.com/mother-of-two is already claimed, and our systems don’t both a parent & and child (lower-level) URL. In those cases, generally either the parent URL is a blog hosting service, or the child URL is a permalink or category link.
So I’m afraid you’ll have to choose one or the other blog to claim. If you want me to remove mother-of-two to allow apples-pie, please let me know.
I’m sorry this won’t work better.
Eric @ Technorati – Thanks so much for taking time to look into this. I will do the necessary changes so that http://apples-pie.com is claimed instead. Please help ensure that Mother of 2 claim is removed and that the parent site is claimed successfully. Thanks!
