Pond’s 7-day age miracle product

ponds.PNG

So what is wrong with this picture?

The first time I watched the commercial by Pond’s, my eyes were pulled to watch as my mind quickly registered the words “miracle” while watching a husband suddenly pay special attention to his girlfriend or wife who were apparently using this age-miracle product. Then I heard the warning bells…. Ringggging in my head. Halt!

How can a woman’s beauty be confirmed just by a man’s sudden attention to her? If the man did not notice her before she used Pond’s then the one that needs a miracle is not the woman’s face but the man’s heart. How can that be used to market a product that could sell by any other marketing strategy? The ads, commercials, even the website screams… if you want to be noticed by a man - use Pond’s age miracle. If you dont want your boyfriend or your husband to cheat on you - use Pond’s age miracle. If you want to receive flowers everyday - use Pond’s age miracle product.

There is already widespread concern about how media packages the meaning of beauty. Its rare that you will find any glossy magazine feature anyone not-remotely similar looking to the likes of Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Kate Moss, Gisele Bundchen. And that is how most anorexics are driven to starvation… the thought that being reed thin is the only thing that can be considered beautiful… how most resort to collagen injections for angelina-jolie lips even if it made them look like a fish… or excessive botox that reduces them to expressionless mannequins.

This is the reason why a lot of just ordinary everyday people (that makes up 90% of the world population) have a difficult time seeing beauty beyond the flawless skin, the fat-free dried out look, the mestiza concept.

And I ask you… what is the problem with this picture?

yeah it’s sad how popular media has pushed people into paying attention only to looks, instead of more important things like character and intelligence… this is particularly true with women…

now everything is faked or fixed…and women are suckered into seeking approval by developing eating disorders, undergoing cosmetic surgeries, and wasting tons of money on quick-fix products, most of which don’t even work…

    - Right you are. And I must admit I fall victim to the same pressures that other woman are subjected to. I feel the same judgement and realize that in today’s world, beauty above all else IS only face value. Cheers!

True. This is blatant distortion of the truth. That it is actually the man’s heart that changes. And whatever happened to ‘for better or for WORSE’ for married couples? We, ladies, should be using this facial wash stuff for hygienic purposes, not to make our partners suddenly want to buy us flowers everyday.

The media has long ago distorted the “meaning of real beauty.” But as Girlie says, it sells, so it’s effective advertising for them. I remember this piece I made about beauty. :p

Mindless entertainment has become a part of life, I guess. :p

This is ironic, but Unilever, the company that owns Pond’s, also owns Dove. Dove has this super-politically correct image about beauty naman. Remember those billboards of plus-sized, flat-chested, and mature women instead of the usual reed-thin nymphet model?

And I agree… Well, suffice it to say I won’t be buying that Age Miracle thingie.

I like your blog! Keep writing!

    - Really? I did not know that. It is ironic then that they are owned by one company. However, I faintly recall that brand marketing may be handled by different companies or different people. But it is sad as I do love the Dove commercials and how they define beauty for everyone.

Thanks for dropping by! I envy you. Enjoy Spain!

seher - the cream is not for older people (i think). they say its never too early for prevention of aging skin. Now its another story if you have sensitive skin. You may have to test on a small area of skin first to make sure there are no adverse reactions. :)

sorry to say but i had a very very bad experience of this Age Miracle, word is “Miracle” but for me its become “Horrible”, because, almost 10 days ago, i used this product, and after a week, i saw burn marks on my face (on cheeks and near chin). they look like that someone used lazer on my face, and now my face become very horrible after applying the product, plz change the name and also plz dont say that our money will be back if u are not satisfied, becasuse when i go to their shop then he said that now there is no such scheme with this….
Also suggest plz Change your product name… dont challenge publically,

    Thanx,

Cheti - Sorry to hear about your experience. I always say to those who ask - beauty products work differently for different people. All profess to perform miracles. You have to ensure the product you are using is the right one for you. :)

  34. Elizabeth, 7. January 2008, 18:14 | Quote

I was visiting India after a year and when there always pick up a pile of old Indian magazines I grew up on to catch up… The first ad that caught my eye in Femina was Sushmita Sen and the 7-day challenge. I am in my fifties now. In the twenties, people would ask me what was the secret of the glow on my face and believe me it was the advantage of youth and “PONDS Vanishing Cream” which I used daily in my college years. In fact, I have always wanted to write in to Ponds to thank them for that product. With age and long working hours, I did find it more and more difficult to keep my skin supple and glowing - no wrinkles though. Hence, when I saw this ad I went with my husband to the Ponds counter in Trivandrum and picked up “the PONDS Age Miracle Cream” and an under-eye cream. I have been using it for a few days and I bet my husband forgot that I had bought it. But just the other day he casually remarked, the dark spots on your face seem better. I didn’t tell him the secret. Now, I just happened to see the ad on this site after he had told me that so there must be some truth that someone notices, it just happened to be my husband. So, thank you again. My skins feels softer and I do not have to now experiment with other products or go cover it with foundation. Confidence, in itself, can bring the glow to your face.

Just one point though - if you are making it for the more mature and aging woman, have the writing on the bottle in a bigger font!! Even with my reading glasses I had trouble reading it, so I just trusted Ponds and I guess, Sushmita Sen!!!

All woman are beautiful and God’s miracle.

    Love

    Elizabeth

    P.S. Change in e-mail adress

I hear you, ladies. BUT … we’re all guilty! Don’t be self righteous right now, and start telling me you’ve never in your whole life snickered or stared at someone’s pimpled, wrinkled or blemished face. Because honestly, when you meet a person (male or female) for the first time, you start wondering why they have so many pimple marks on their faces. You wonder if they take care of themselves, at all. You worry that they’re a health risk … ohhh, i might be infected with your pimples so I’ve better not peck your cheeks. Oh, yeah I’ve heard this one before; from an acquaintance who had been blabbering about how plus sized women are stereotyped as unhealthy.

I believe that natural beauty should be enhanced. I believe that wanting to look beautiful is a sign of SELF RESPECT. I believe that the media is not the only entity to blame for how we define ugly and beautiful.

Don’t you ever wonder where the media got the idea in the first place? From Filipino traditions and beliefs. It seems that the only goal of most typical pinays is to find someone to take care of them, get married and have babies every year. This mindset is what’s killing us, so much for women’s liberation.

  38. ApplesH, 23. February 2008, 13:29 | Quote

jackie - I hear your point too. And its not about wanting to look beautiful that I feel is so wrong. Its the reason you want to look beautiful. You said it. Self respect should be the reason, not a man.

webshankara - hi guys. i felt the miracle word best suits this product. I feel that its not wrong to say a beauty product as miracle if it really does it. As we all know that complexion plays a vital roll in the society. if some thing works to enhance our complexion is really a miracle.

  41. carla, 22. April 2008, 13:18 | Quote

they say beauty is only skin deep. would you really want to base your self-respect on something so superficial? on the other hand, something as shallow as trying to attract a man should be an appropriate motivation for wanting to have younger looking skin. beauty should be about fun, not self-fulfillment. if we take the matter of beauty too seriously, then that’s when it becomes dangerous.

  42. ApplesH, 23. April 2008, 21:05 | Quote

carla - I hear you. I really see no reason to want to become beautiful. I am not against fighting gravity or the call of age. However, there has to be more to one’s motivation to become beautiful than to be be “finally” noticed by your husband or boyfriend. The picture sucks both ways. It makes men appear shallow and women superficial.

    Dear saleha,
Ponds Age Miracle is the perfect choice for you.
The problem you are having is because of imbalenced pigmentaition process on your skin. you have to firstly decrease direct exposoure to sun. At the same time you should take fruits like orange, grapes, bannana, papaya every day in a fluidy way. Use face creams for better results. One best product could be Ponds Age Miracle and also use a good bath soup like dove.

I myself, is using some of their products, particularly their facial wash. I find it not very effective on my face, i usuall get pimples even though i wash my face regularly, i am also conscious of what i eat so i guess there’s a thin chance of getting pimples but i was wrong.
it’s all up to us whether to let the media control us by getting with the flow of stereotyping. what we should remember is, beauty is not just about those flawless face but it should be inside-out.,,after all those faces will just be buried under the ground,,errrrr..that’s a joke..
