Will you quit your dream job because you hate your boss?
The April edition of Cosmo Philippines magazine asked this question to its readers to get some kind of survey result to show. The outcome indicated that 63% would quit because having a boss you hate doesnt make the job a dream job. 37% of respondents said that they wouldnt give up and that they wouldnt let anyone ruin their dreams.
Personally, I belong to the 37% of respondents to this question.
A number of articles have been written (and published) tackling the subject of dealing with an overly demanding boss, or an overly difficult boss. And ALL these articles provide suggestions, and tips to help you deal with these people. Let me rephrase - all these articles provide suggestions, and tips to help you deal with difficult people (and not just your boss). I have read several of them. I even took to heart some of these author’s recommendations.
You see, in our workplace, you really cant choose who you work with. You can choose not to work with them however - meaning you can either resign, or request for a transfer. I have had a number of staff come to me with diatribes about their supervisors or their co-workers. They often express desires to resign because of the effect these people have on them and their performance at work.
I simply tell them that they have to first put themselves in these people’s shoes. Maybe they are undergoing too much stress, a personal problem or burdened by conflict. Looking at them as humans eliminates your own vulnerability to their words or demands. The other is to look at their demands and objectively determine if they are out of line. Because if they are, then maybe its the HR you should be talking to. Another thing is to talk to someone in a higher position - like “me” or maybe another person from management so that they could get a more objective view on the situation.
If looking at the situation from all angles does not help and the staff is still adamant about resigning then maybe its the job and they are not really happy with what they are doing and the difficult person/s are just the last push that they can take.
So the next time you get into a situation where you are faced with quitting your job, think hard about what is causing that. Try hard to get to the root cause of your dilemma and address it accordingly. If you dont, then quitting your job might not get you the satisfaction you crave and might cause you more worries down the road.
At the end of the day - it is only a job after all. No life is worth depending one’s happiness on it.

I just did quit my job in a publishing company and transferred in a call center.
I cannot work comfortably and in harmony with my superiors and our HR! They are accusing me of insubordination for a very minute reason which it came a pesonal issue ( I can’t discussed details). Well, I quitted and have my exit clearance already!
Why suffer from these people who are also good at promises and hindrance to your dreams! After all, it’s not worth to be keeping my heartaches. It’s hard to pretend to be ok at work when in fact you can’t work at your comfort zones (get what I mean ?)
@Xerendipity
Good luck with your new job!
- I know what you mean. Every situation is different. Every situation is unique. And as I mentioned - its just work after all.
