Why will I vote for Cesar Montano?

This is a question that the Team Montano asks in their blog. I found the link through a comment on my post on Cesar Montano making fun of politics.

Sadly, Team Montano has not given me enough reason to change my mind about not voting for Cesar. Here are the 3 reasons they stated about why I should vote for him:

  • (Quote from the site) Cesar Montano has time and time again rejected offers of endorsements of products that he thinks is against his personal beliefs and principles (he never endorsed beers, liquors and cigarettes during his career as an actor). He has lost countless millions just because he wanted to stand firm on what he believes in, on what he was taught was right. If he can do that then, what could possibly prevent him from doing it again in the senate?
  • My response: I am like that. My dad is like that. My friend’s driver is like that. A lot of people reject things, ideas that are against their personal beliefs. I know people who have lost many things, money (maybe not millions) standing firm for what they believe in. Everyday you can see passionate people being taken away by the police, tortured, imprisoned just because they cared enough to stand by what they believe in. Does it mean they will be best candidates for the senatorial position? I dont think this is a good argument at all.

  • (Quote from the site) Many might not know, but Cesar Montano came from very humble beginnings. Poverty is not new to him. Equipped only with the principles taught by his father and the fear of God taught by his mother, he strived so that he would be able to rise from that situation into a better future. He knows poverty from a personal viewpoint. Because of this personal knowledge, he too knows very well what is needed for us to fight poverty. Helping his fellowmen is not new to him; he has done this in his own little way. Imagine the possibilities if he is given a better way of helping others.
  • My response: If Cesar indeed knows poverty and he carries the knowledge needed to fight poverty, why wait until now to say he can do it? He is famous. He has money. He is an icon, looked up to by many - young and old. Isnt that the best opportunity to make “fighting poverty” a possibility? Why wait? Why now? Why when he has the answers are many still suffering in poverty?

  • (Quote from the site) He does not want to spend his own money so that if ever he wins, he will not be compelled to gain back what he has lost.
  • My response: Uhh… and THAT is the reason I should vote for Cesar???

Again, let me reiterate what I said about Cesar - “I have no doubt that Cesar is a world-class actor - he has awards to show for it.” I also have no doubt he is a decent and principled man. He loves his family and takes care of them well. But our wounded nation is not a “play” or a “tv” show where his acting skills can be appreciated or utilized. Our wounded nation is just that… wounded. It needs to be healed. If you were sick would you go to a real doctor or someone just dressed like one?

:) Please do read more on his platforms and advocacies on that same site. That was not the only thing written about him.
Btw, the 3 reasons mentioned may be shallow for you, but the absence of those basic things are the reasons why we have corrupt officials running our government right now.
Reason #1, are you sayung you were ever offered 2 million pesos to just pose for a beer or a cigarette and you declined? Standing up for one’s principle and beliefs despite the lure of money is not too common nowadays. If it was, then we wouldnt have a problem in government would we?
Reason #2 He didnt wait up to now, he has been doing what he can in his own little way to help out those he can help. Now that the opportunity to do more came knocking in, he chose to grab it. And there is no better time than now that he is famous, has money and looked upon by many. What better way to influence many to follow suit right?
Reason# 3 We have been clamoring about those politicians who gets elected spend most of their time earning back what they have spent during their campaign. It is something that has to be stopped. He chose to go against the flow so as to make sure that he doesnt get sucked into the same hole as like the others who came before him.
If not for these reasons, then what should a person vote for? Experience, knowledge in lawmaking, or affiliations? I do believe that integrity, character, attitude, moral beliefs, and passion to do what is right should go first. Everything else can be taught or learned.

she said this is not such a good reason at all in running for office… there have been numerous attempts by regular people to run for office with all the best interests in heart, but ended up being a part of the system themselves… and i fear he already has been corrupted… if not, how come he can still continue his campaign despite the fact that he hasn’t touched any of his own money (Reason #3)?? all were paid for by Team Unity? and what do you call that except for corruption??

there is that money thing again… and here i was thinking that he will not touch his own money… you mean he will just give them away to poor people without expecting anything in return?? baah!! that is the biggest cock-and-bull story if i’ve ever heard of one…

      ———

look, if you still haven’t heard, Cesar will not win simply because he is a nobody… oh, he may be a somebody in celebirites circles… but he has proven time and again that THAT is all he can do… if all he really wants to do is to serve our poor country and its people, let him serve by not making it a little more poorer by running and (wang naman sana) winning… what does he know of policy making and governance?? just those little bits he learned when he played Rizal in Noli?? aw c’mon…

Will you serve a corrupt master?

      Samuel served Eli.
      Joseph served Potiphar.
      Daniel served Nebuchadnessar.
Cesar served (or will serve) Macapagal.

      Only God knows our hearts.
IF Cesar’s heart is right with God,
wherever God puts him, he can be a positive influence,
      he can make a difference…..

      I’ll give him a chance.

      - I agree with all you have said about Cesar. I did not say he wasnt all that you said. I just merely indicated that these characteristics prove he is a decent person. I do not doubt that. But these characteristics do not necessarily make him a good candidate for Senator.

After all, we have all heard WHY he is a good candidate as you say. What we have not heard is HOW he will implement all that he wants to accomplish. And the HOW is the question to all candidates and not just Cesar Montano.

Sadly, no one seems to be able to give a coherent answer.

Another suggestion - Lose the agenda based on the letters of his name. The election is not a slumbook of sorts. We should not be limited to fitting our agenda that fits the letters of our name. Are these really what Cesar believes in and wants to work at IF elected? I must say he can do BETTER than THAT.

      - Cesar’s heart may be in the right place… but personally our country needs more than moral support - if that makes sense. Our country needs someone who has definite plans of action to make the Philippines a better nation and life better for Filipinos.

Hello ! I am one of the lucky one who applied the real meaning of self contentment. I really thank “God” that I found the real meaning — but until now I cannot find the meaning of contentment for the others — because it hurts me seeing people sufferings.I am really hoping that Cezar Montano knows the meaning of this proverb — The secret of happiness is contentment.
