How can one man have so much power over you?
I watched the DVD of Music and Lyrics a few days ago. I’m a hundred years late in watching this film but I don’t mind. I still loved it anyway.
The movie is about this has-been 80’s sensation living in the 21st century. He tries to survive real life by falling in love with a frustrated poet who got her heartbroken by a novelist jerk.
I must say the first few seconds in the movie totally threw me off. Who wouldn’t gape at Hugh Grant in tight white pants and tall hair doing the jiggy in a duo singing to a totally 80’s tune - Pop goes my heart. Uuuggghh. I get LSS just thinking about it.
Its light, its funny, its relevant.
It was ok over all.
I liked it for the fact that I was reminded of how men can be total jerks. Recall the scenes where Drew talked about her relationship with famous novelist, Sloan. She struggled with the fact that she invested her love on a guy who would eventually write a book about it in not so good words - thus earning his income on her sad, pitiful story. Kiss and tell. And those who tell most often than not choose the way they tell - where they turn out to be the victims. Men? Victims. Come on.
I watched as she walked up to him, heart pounding and sweating but all the same wanting to scream her heart out to him… to tell him how much he hurt her and betrayed her. And then he smiled at her and said Hi. I watched as Drew melted. Speechless. Like his gaze literally stopped her senseless. In the end, he was left standing and she more pitiful than ever.
Don’t you just hate it when someone has this much power over you. Many times those who have caused us so much heartache are also those who can disturb us even after years have passed. Even after falling in love again, maybe eventually having a family and everything you have ever wished for… if by chance you meet your ex… and he says something nasty to you. Then you freeze. And you hurt. And you feel as if you’re back in your own black hole.
I always believed that love is giving someone the power to hurt you. I really hope that is not it.

Yes, when you’re in love, you’re vulnerable. I’ve been fooled because I was in love with a total jerk, many of my friends, male or female, too. Love makes you blind at the beginning, and you’re not acting rational at all. But it’s such a pleasant feeling, isn’t it? And when you find the right person, it is really worth it.
modobs - Youre right of course. A lot of people allow a lot of things to pass just because theyre in love. As if the grew their tolerance by a 100%. But it surely pays off when the one you concentrate your emotions on is a person who truly deserves it. Its an ideal world wherein everyone finds that match at the first shot.
