How far will you go for a man?

Lately, my friends and I have come to talking about our past lives. I cannot remember how it all started and why. I can only guess that because of the years between the past and the present and the fact that we were all happily married now, we can all look back and laugh at all the stupidity of youth we once called our lives.

The topic that day centered on the lengths one would go to for the man they loved. Calm down! I know what you’re thinking! It was the same way that day. Everyone talked at the same time. Each wanting to share their experience and all wanted to be the most stupid of all. Oh yes, we can forgive ourselves and laugh at all our antics now but I’ll bet during those times, we were all lovestruck, blind and deaf. Even I cannot forget the years I used to run around in circles trying to please my guy.

Just take a look at my list…

  • There was a time that I used to hoard big bottles of honey mustard sauce just so “this guy” would eat dinner at our apartment every night
  • Once I pretended I had free gift cheques to a famous SPA and invited my guy out for a body massage
  • I used to call up this guy to ask him to help me do man-stuff around the apartment… like hammer a nail to the wall (hehe)
  • Hearing myself say… “you’re the first”
  • Enrolled in the university where he studied in
  • Waited in SM Megamall for him for 6 hours (this was the time when there were very few and mostly expensive mobile phones so I did not have one.. tsk tsk too long ago)
  • A couple of years ago, I blocked out my 6PM onwards so that when this guy called I could easily jump up and join him for dinner or a movie… or both
  • I forced myself to learn and appreciate cars and car mods. Words like spoiler, side skirts, spoon, sparco, evo, amplifier, turbo, venom, 17″, chrome, hydraulics, momo , tanabe, mufflers, capacitor, skyline, greddy, and rockford fosgate float in my mind. Whew! Let’s just say I was even crazy enough to go for a joyride when my guy went drag racing at White Plains (eons ago)
  • Joined a choir
  • Learned to play badminton

I am shaking my head and laughing inside as I type this list. No, they did not all happen with one guy or one each. Let your imagination fly… just like mine did at the time. So what’s on your list? ;)

jester - The thing with women’s stupidity - a lot of times the guy is totally clueless. So you’re not a total loser. You may not know it but someone out there may just be acting stupid for you. ;)

I think that goes perfectly with the joke below. Just want to share.

After spending time with Eve, Adam was walking in the Garden with God. Adam told God how much the woman means to him and how blessed he feels to have her. Adam began to ask questions about her.

Adam: Lord, Eve is beautiful. Why did you make her so beautiful?
God: So you will always want to look at her.
Adam: Lord, her skin is so soft. Why did you make her skin so soft?
God: So you will always want to touch her.
Adam: She always smells so good. Lord, why did you make her smell so good?
God: So you will always want to be near her.
Adam: That’s wonderful Lord, and I don’t want to seem ungrateful, but why did you make her so stupid?

God: So she would love you.

–hehehe. btw, your blog is really nice specially the my diamond peel experince love it!

Um, I sort of understand most of the other stuff, but BADMINTON? I’m guilty of spoiler and whale tail and terms like that, but BADMINTON. . .

Thanks Apples for sharing this. That is an impressive list and I think a lot have actually done some of them. Making the relationship with the “man” a priority over one’s success is something I could add.

It will be interesting to hear a male perspective on this subject - “how far will you for a woman?”

I think you should temper this by asking another question:

how far will a woman go for her husband?

Hmmmm… Getting into RC mode - aero and heli? And actually ending up loving the hobby, after losing the man. :-)

Janette - I agree with adding that one. I think that happens more frequently and more commonly than anyone would care to admit. ;)

wilson ng - I guess that would make it more specific. I wanted the question to be more generic but to be able to relate I had to make it “for a man”. The list is mine and others may have a different one so I did not really want to limit it. One does not have to have a husband to do all these things and more.. . besides - the one I did for my husband is not included here ;) Go figure. :D

Sexy Mom - I know! I did that so that I could come up with this list for myself. :)

Elena - That’s what happened to me with badminton. I got better at it even after the relationship went bust. :)

dyanie - “He” actually influenced me to look at what the school had to offer and I was just fortunate to have liked it. But if he hadn’t, the school would not be in my shortlist and would not even had tried it out.

I can understand the computers thing… same thing for me with blogging.. (sorry sweetie!) - hehe.
