Dressing up for work

Although I work at Makati CBD, the type of work I do does not require me to face clients often. If I have to be honest, I mostly spend my days (and nights) typing away at my laptop to connect to different people in different places around the world. I can say that about 75% of my colleagues do not even wear makeup (huwaaat?! - yea my mom has the same reaction). This means, I can be as lousy and as unkempt as I could be (not that I want to) and my laptop will not crash on me.

But being who I am (a.k.a true blue kikay), I cannot make myself come to work in the morning with yesterday’s jeans and a crinkled shirt (hmm… if its fashionably crinkled maybe). I carefully choose what I wear and how I wear my clothes.

I wasn’t always fashion conscious. Years ago, my rocker ex-boyfriend even had to teach me what’s in and what’s not. But watching Sex and the City every night and pouring over Cosmo every month made me so fashion-aware that I developed my own taste for clothing. Oh I make a lot of mistakes that would make me a fashion police victim but these only taught me what works for me and what doesn’t. There is no end to self-improvement, I might add. Now my rule of thumb has become… if you are comfortable with what you are wearing then it must look great on you. Not to say go out and buy yourself some stonewashed jeans and sneakers. What I mean is if you are wearing even the most expensive mini dress but cannot help but pull at the back conscious that your buns are showing… then minis may not be for you.

Now I have made dressing up in the morning an event rather than a routine and do it with as much passion as I can muster at 5:30 in the morning.
