Filipina exposed. It’s about time that people started laying it out in the open. Through Janette Toral’s Filipina Writing Project and the efforts of Lorna Lardizabal-Dietz, Dine Racoma, and Noemi Lardizabal-Dado, all Filipinas now have a venue to participate in this global effort to reshape the image of the Filipina.

I, a sexy Filipina mom, a gorgeous Filipina, and an empowered Filipina individual am jumping in to join this online campaign by doing what I do best… blogging.

I believe that the Filipina in the nude is a sexy Filipina. The brown color of her skin is dazzling and beautiful. Her dark hair is mesmerizing. Her short, flat nose is adorable. Aside from her obvious beauty, she plays different but important roles that make her a force constant in the Philippine society.

Filipina as a worker. She is hardworking and organized. She is formidable but personal. She is intelligent and smart. She is an achiever. They bring warmth to any company and act as a glue to the foundation of any company’s resource structure.

A Filipina leads with an iron fist but a soothing voice. She merits respect rather than demand it. She negotiates rather than dictates. Filipinas are not nitpickers. They are flexible making them ideal for any type of job or career they aim to have.

Filipina singles and dating. They are fun, adventurous, and fabulous. It will be an endless whirlwind trying to keep up with them. This makes up part of the allure that they hold.

Dating in the Philippines is unique and exciting but quite challenging. It is still the norm for any man to make the first move or to be the first to profess his interest. Then there is the wooing, the courting and the dating. Oftentimes, the wooing includes family or friends. It is also not uncommon for one man to travel three hours through traffic just to pick up his date and another three hours just to bring them safely home.

Modern Filipinas, although more aggressive and stubborn, still expect the same wooing albeit at a different level. The obvious difference is that modern Filipinas are more expressive, critical and go getters. They usually know what they want and do not have a hard time communicating this. Men will just have to try harder to win these women (or not).

They have unbelievable resilience and patience which is one of the keys to keeping the family intact. The Filipina at home will do anything to protect her loved ones from pain and suffering.

Leadership ability determines a person’s level of effectiveness. This is what John Maxwell teaches in his 21 Irrefutable laws of leadership. The lid signifies the limits of our leadership abilities or that of those who lead us.

C was a new supervisor hired by the company to drive the implementation of a big project. She was assigned to work with ten other junior employees with the responsibilities of training, teaching, and supervising their work.

C was not new to being a supervisor as she left her previous company after just being promoted to team lead. There, she led more than twenty workers in their day to day activities.

Her new environment, new team, new clients proved too much and immediately her performance dipped. To diminish the impacts to the client’s business, skilled employees were assigned to assist her. These were skilled but still junior employees of the company.

There was no improvement for the next two months. In fact, a few of the skilled staff started displaying poor performance, producing low quality deliverables, and exhibiting extreme stress.

Management decided to reassign C to a less critical project with no leadership roles.

Slowly, the big project improved. The team’s morale soared. The clients became less critical and more trusting.

It was at that time that I understood what John Maxwell’s message was and what my mentor was trying to imply. She had challenged all of the members of the management team to break out of their comfort zones and exceed their potentials. She stressed that as leaders we had the responsibility to become the best in what we do otherwise we will be hampering the growth potential of all the employees that look up to us.

We do not have bosses in our company. We have leaders. Now I understand the difference.

You all know how my husband and I love coffee — we rave about it, we write about it.  But today, we were confronted by a question while shopping for groceries…

Is instant coffee really extinct?

Last year, I was very sad to part with my favorite instant coffee - the old flavor of Nescafé Classic. My husband and I really did not like the taste of the modified coffee flavor. To us, it tasted like coffee made from burnt rice. It was so bad for us that we refused to drink it even if we still had a full bottle.

So it was a good thing that Nestlé Philippines (the distributor of Nescafé in our country) came out with First Pick. The idea was to take the first pick coffee beans and come up with a unique coffee flavor.

Was the flavor unique? I didn’t think so. But the taste was definitely better than what they have tagged as classic.

So what is up with Nestlé? Don’t they realize how much people hate their new flavors? Ok, maybe not a lot but I can list myself, my husband, my parents, my brother, two sisters and the house help. My parents even had to switch to Blend 45. Imagine! Now I don’t want to switch to another brand. But the only other option for us is Nescafé Gold. I hope they do not go and change that formula.

I called out to Nestlé before and I am calling out to them again. Hear us! Please! I miss my coffee… huhuhu
