By no means am I or we (my husband and I) the perfect parents. But in the world today, there seems to be a growing number of irresponsible parents. I talk about those who carelessly live their own lives and often at the risk (knowing or unknowing) of the safety of their own children.
Here are some examples of what I witness every day:
Children are left running around busy streets while their parents are chatting away with someone on the sidewalk. They think that because they see where their kids are they are safe. But how fast can they move in case a fast car comes barreling upon them. Will their eyes be the one to save them?
Mother’s who refuse to seek shelter in homes set up by charitable institutions and organizations but instead bring themselves and their kids - some as young as one year old - to beg with them on city streets. These young children are exposed to the onslaught of the hot sun or cold rain or careless drivers or crooked men. Poverty is a fact but it does not take away one’s choices. The choices may be limited but there are still choices.
The most severe case we have witnessed - and we have seen many - is the one wherein parents ride their motorcycles and have their children ride with them. Just like today. While we were on our way home, we chanced upon a man on a motorcycle. He did not have a helmet on so we immediately commented on that. Then I noticed the tip of a helmet just under his chin and realized he was riding with a child! I reminded my husband to drive slowly so to give the bike and the rider a lot of space despite the fact that we were pissed at the situation. To add more fuel to the fire - the rider suddenly whipped his hand to his ear - he was using his cell phone! That was the last straw. My husband tried to get his attention to reprimand him but he just looked back and rode away. The nerve of some people.
I don’t get it. Here I am trying so hard to protect my kids from the tiniest bit of harm, at least as much as I can. But then I see kids here and there - obviously lacking in guardians and supervision. And I ask myself - is there something I can do?

we have the same sentiments. Especially that motorcyle ride without helmet. Some accidents are just waiting to happen and we know these are preventable accidents. Happy Mother’s day btw. Hope you had a great day.

Exactly. My husband would love to get a motorcycle but I am just too wary and afraid of those things.
Happy Mothers day to you too!
