Kids grow up so fast

My son’s school uses a school notebook to communicate to parents about school meetings, school events and even school assignments.

I came home the other day to find that the school had an assignment for my little one. It should have been just like any ordinary day and any ordinary assignment but this time the words said - “Do page 30 of the Math workbook”.

Math.

I did not expect Math to come so soon. I was imagining that my son would just paint, sing, dance, and color his whole life. But no. Kids have to grow up some time. And Math is a clear sign that my son just did.

I stared at him. Watched him as he picked out the colors that I was saying out of the crayon box. He picked all of them correctly. Even the violet crayon.

My head reeled. My son was only four years old and by all means he should know which crayon is red and which crayon is yellow. But I was in denial. I was thinking back to the time when all he cared about was red (as in red cars).

But kids grow up. And these days, kids grow up fast. He even plays games in the computer now (including using the mouse!).

we perceive that they will always be our babies but then life is fast…soon they will leave us! wahhh!!

hailey - We sort of expect it to come and we try hard to prepare for it. But nothing does prepare us for when our babies grow up.

my husband always jokes about my son growing-up and introducing her girlfriend to us…Haay naiinis ako, i don’t want to think about it yet…pwede ba, not now! Please lang Andre is only 1 year and 2 months old. :)

  4. ApplesH says:

Waah! Girlfriend na agad! I can’t bear the thought. Not yet anyway. :(

@apples and bang, don’t worry about the girlfriend thing. For us, men, it is just about being “macho”. Of course we want our son to be the extension of ourselves. Hehehe.

Kidding aside. Kids do grow up so fast. Our youngest is now 9 years old and we miss “our baby”. But it feels good when sometimes our kids want us to baby them. They, too, would not like to grow so fast. My first year high still plays with his toy soldiers–in our room, messing our bed (making all the pillows as bunkers and hideouts! and draining the batteries of our flashlight which he uses as search light kuno!)

Don’t worry, as you women say: Men do not grow.

    Cheers!

inkblots - I forgot about that! Yeah men don’t grow up… most of the time at least. Hehe.

I expect that I will be like my mom and how she was with my brother. I mean he is soon to be married and secretly she wishes she is still the only woman in his life.

kaya let’s enjoy the time spent with them :-) like your mom, i have a younger brother who’s more than 12 years younger than me — until now, everytime i see him; i cant believe he’s so grown up now, he’s in his mid 20s. i still see him as the bunso baby!

  8. ApplesH says:

raqgold - wow 12 years is a large gap for siblings. I can imagine still babying a 20 year old. :)

Jona - Thanks for dropping by! :)
